Championing Dignity and Inclusion for All
Our Key Projects
Project Ben Retina: Saving a Young Man’s Sight
The Disabled Persons Foundation urgently appeals for support towards Project Ben Retina 3.0 and 4.0 — life-changing surgeries needed to save Ben’s eyesight.
Progress to Date
Following a successful first operation performed by one of South Africa’s leading ophthalmologists, two additional surgeries are still required before the end of May 2026 to prevent permanent vision loss.
Medical specialists have confirmed that urgent treatment is necessary to remove a damaging membrane from the retina and continue the healing process. Encouragingly, new medication has already improved blood flow to the eye, increasing the chances of a full recovery.
The Foundation, a registered NPC and PBO with approved Section 18A status, is seeking financial assistance to raise the remaining R25,000 needed for the third surgery, as well as R75,000 for the final operation. Every contribution will help give Ben the opportunity to regain sight and improve his quality of life.
